Goodbye Harborview...For Now

Doug has been in Seattle at Harborview Medical Center since the beginning of January. So if we were lucky, our days off would fall on the same day. I think that it happened maybe 4 times over the last 2 months. Needless to say, I am so ready for him to be back home and at Madigan. I am so looking forward to him being home every night leaving his little trails of messes for me to clean up. ;) Doug is working all night and will be home tomorrow morning. I am trying to stay up all night doing things around the house so we can sleep all day tomorrow.
Miss him...

Projects

My mom was in town visiting us for the last two weeks. She is gone now and I already miss her. The first week that she was here I was super sick with a horrible cold. Thank goodness that she was here to take care of me because Doug obviously didn't think I was that sick. One morning I woke up with 101.4 fever and all that Doug said was that I could technically still go into surgery. Whatever that comment meant I have no idea. I guess he sees worse things than a common cold at the hospital, but he could at least show a little more compassion for me.

We finally have finished redoing our bathroom. We started the week of Thanksgiving and this last weekend Doug put down the last baseboard. I am so excited about how everything turned out. Whenever we first looked at the house, redoing the master bathroom was the first thing on the list of things that needed to be done. The storage space in the vanity was limited and I hated the look of the medicine cabinet in the wall. I thought it looked like a hotel bathroom. The hardest job that we both were a little weary of doing was the tile. After we laid the tile we were both surprised at how easy it was. I am so impressed with Doug's plumbing skills. He moved the sink from being up against the wall to the center of the counter. It sounds kinda of easy, but he had to re-route the pipes to go around the new drawers and install a longer drain pipe. Anyways, I am really proud and glad that when we hooked everything up in the end it all worked and nothing leaked. The most difficult project in the bathroom was probably putting the frame around the mirror. We weren't really too sure how to do it and make sure that it would turn out OK. It took us a little while to get up enough courage and confidence to put the frame together, but in the end I am really happy with it.

This is what the Bathroom looked like when we first moved in...

And here is the bathroom after all of our hard work...

I love the little flower arrangement that I made. I copied one that I saw at Michael's and surprised myself at how good it turned out!

The one I copied...

My little creation...

Another little project that we had on our list of things to do in the house was putting granite in the kitchen. I love the granite that we picked out!

We are done for now with our little remodeling projects. I still want to redo a few things in the other bathrooms and we will get to them later. I am glad that my mom got to see the bathroom and kitchen. She also got to see the kitchen table that I have been waiting on since before her first visit in September! Another thing that she was able to see was Doug's new pride and joy.

He loves his Corvette!

Our weekend

On Saturday I was still feeling a little under the weather, but because Doug really wanted to go skiing, I couldn't let him down. We went to the Summit at Snoqualmie around 4 and skied into the night. It was our first time skiing at night and it was a lot of fun. I only fell once and it was pretty pathetic that that one time was in line at the ski lift. Hopefully I am getting a little better and will be prepared for our week long ski trip in March to Whistler. The scenery out here always takes my breath away!

On Sunday my mom came to stay with us for a couple of weeks. This is my mom's third trip out here to visit. I never thought that she would come to see us this much, but I love it. Every time that I pick her up from the airport she has the happiest look on her face, like she actually misses me and is so glad to see me. I don't know if she is really that happy or just glad that she is off of the plane after a 5 hour plus trip!

Yesterday I came home to a pleasant surprise...our new granite kitchen counter tops were installed! Doug is in Seattle until Friday, so the sink is not installed. I will post some pictures later when everything is put together and finished.

Insomnia

While Doug has been in Seattle I have not been sleeping well. So it is 5:33am here on the west coast and I have been up for the past couple of hours. I cannot sleep at all. The sad thing is that Doug is here with me, right upstairs snoring away. Me waking him and telling him that I couldn't sleep obviously didn't enable him from falling right back to sleep. :)

I am a little under the weather. My throat is a little sore and my nose is starting to get a little stuffy. Doug wants to go go skiing today and I really want to go...I guess I should try to get more sleep huh? I hope that I feel a little better by tomorrow because my mom will be here around 11! I can't wait to see her.

Here is a picture from her first trip out here last fall...she will experience some different weather this go round!!!

I am going to try this blogging thing...

I have been reading a couple of blogs lately and I thought...hey I should and could write one of these. It could be a way everyone back home could keep up with mine and Doug's events/outings. So I am just going to start the babbling...

Doug has been in Seattle this past month and will be there all of February. I have been holding the fort down here at home and have had way too much time on my hands - hence the idea of blogging. I have been spending a lot of time scrapbooking and a lot of time at the gym. I have decided that since Doug went out and bought himself a corvette I am going to start going to this personal trainer that I have met at the gym. Hopefully she can have me buff by summer!

We have been waiting since September for our Kitchen table to be delivered and it finally arrived today. I love it and cannot wait for our granite countertops to be installed on Monday! YEAH...now if only I can talk Doug into Stainless Steal appliances my kitchen would be perfect.

I know that we are only going to be in this house for another 4 1/2 years, but who knows when we will be able to have another house that we can call our own. I am afraid when Doug is finished with residency we will probably be moving around a lot and will not have place of our own, so I want to make this place perfect while I can.

Here is the too cute table...
