At the end of April Doug and I went to Maui, Hawaii. We had the best time. I think Maui is at the top of our list of best vacations!
DAY 1: We landed and picked up our rental car. We decided on a red jeep and of course Doug had to put the top down before we left Alamo. He was so excited about the jeep.
Our first stop was Costco to pick up groceries for the week. Then we made our way to our hotel on the other side of the island. We got situated in our room and then headed down to the poolside bar. We stayed at the Sheraton in Kaanapali. It was the best location! We watched the cliff divers jump off the cliffs at night and then we walked down to the Wheelers village for dinner.
The Wheeler’s Village is full of great shops and restaurants. We walked around and looked in some of the shops. We watched some hula dancers and then we made our way back to the Hula Grill. This was our first night of many dining at the Hula Grill. We had drinks and some appetizers before we headed back to the hotel to crash after our long day of traveling.
DAY 2: After relaxing at the pool all day we headed into Lahaina for a Luau. The grounds for the Luau were right on the water. It was absolutely beautiful!
We were greeted with gorgeous leis and yummy Mai Tais.
They served Kalua Puaa….Pork roasted in a beachside Imu (the Hawaiian underground oven). It was delicious!
Doug serenaded me with a ukulele before dinner.
Right near the beach….
Show time….
DAY 3: We drove all the around the island on “The Road to Hana”. We stopped at several spots along the way to see amazing waterfalls, take short hikes to breath taking views, and to have some yummy banana bread. We dug our feet in some black sand and some red sand. The drive was awesome and I am glad that we rented the jeep to do it in.
DAY 4: On Tuesday we had an awesome Pool day!
DAY 5: We sailed to the Molokini crater and snorkeled. I saw some beautiful coral, fish, and one scary looking eel. Doug saw two octopi fighting! He sat and watched them forever!
After we returned from our snorkeling trip we decided to find some places to snorkel on our own.
Day 6: We spent the day snorkeling in front of the hotel, lounging by the pool, and doing a little cliff jumping.
We found some innocent bystanders to take our pictures as we jumped off the cliff together. Thank goodness they didn’t take off with our camera!
Day 7: Pretty much the same as day 6. Doug went with some locals and jumped off this insanely high cliff on the other side of our hotel.
So sad to return to dreary Washington!
