14 Weeks

photo 5

*Total weight gain?: 0-Back to where I started thanks to all the Christmas goodies I have been eating!

*How big is baby?: 3 1/2 to 4  inches long and weighs about 1 1/2oz.  About the size of a clenched fist.

*Sleep: Can’t get enough sleep!  I think I was exhausted from all the skiing that I did last week.

Sex: Doug keeps talking to my tummy like it is a boy and I have to remind him that it could be a girl.  I still don’t have a feeling either way.

*Maternity clothes: 2 pairs of H&M maternity pants that I am living in.

*Showing yet?: Maybe a tiny bit of bump!

*Stretch marks: Not yet…

*Movement: I think I felt a little bit of a flutter.  Not sure…Doug says  that I am crazy and that it was probably just gas.

*Food cravings: Nothing much this week, probably because we were on vacation and we ate a ton of junk.

*Labor signs: None…thank goodness. This baby needs to cook another 26 weeks.

*Belly button in or out: Way in as usual.

*Wedding ring on or off: on.

*Worst pregnancy symptom of the week: Exhaustion!  I would get so tired after every run that we did while skiing.  I guess I am just out of shape!

*What I miss: Being able to ski and not have to worry about falling.  I was going so slow this week down the slopes.  I think I am a better skier when I can be more careless.

*What I'm looking forward to: Christmas dinner at our place!  Doug is deep frying a turkey for the first time ever…I’m praying that no one gets hurt and that nothing catches on fire.

*Best Moment of the Week: Only having a two day work week and enjoying the rest of the week on vacation with Doug.  We are soaking up all of our one on one time because we know in about 6 months everything is going to change.

13 Weeks

photo 4

*Total weight gain?: Down 2 pounds

*How big is baby?: 3 inches long

*Sleep: Sleeping pretty well most nights

Sex: No idea.  Went in for an ultrasound this week and she wouldn’t tell me either way.  She said that it is still too early to tell.  She wouldn’t let me take any pictures either.   Doug was a little sad that he couldn’t be there so on Sunday we went in and played with the ultrasound machine in his office.  We took these pictures on Sunday.

The little gummy looks more like a baby now.  Gummy was moving all over the place and never stayed very still for long.  He would play with his feet and stretch his legs.  It was so weird seeing all this going on inside me and not feeling any of it!

*Maternity clothes: Finally picked up some maternity pants from H&M and love them.  So comfy!

*Showing yet?: Maybe a tiny bit of bump!

*Stretch marks: Not yet…

*Movement: Nothing going on in there that I can feel.

*Food cravings: Cheese Biscuits from Red Lobster.

*Labor signs: None…thank goodness. This baby needs to cook another 27 weeks.

*Belly button in or out: Way in as usual.

*Wedding ring on or off: on.

*Worst pregnancy symptom of the week: Nothing horrible this week to report and I am not complaining about that!

*What I miss: Really missed drinking a Strawberry Margarita when we went to Red Lobster on Sunday.  (Doug let me know how great his Lime Margarita tasted though)

*What I'm looking forward to: Skiing in Whistler!  We leave on Wednesday to go to the best place ever to ski!  I am going to live it up because I don’t think Doug is going to let me ski much longer.

*Best Moment of the Week: Seeing the little gummy moving all around in my belly and seeing the heart pounding away in his chest!

Week 13: Baby is the size of a Peach

Week 12

001

*Total weight gain?: Down 4 pounds

*How big is baby?: 2 1/2 inches long and weighs almost 1/2 ounce.

*Sleep: Still waking up to pee, but luckily I have been able to fall back asleep most nights.

Sex: Still not a clue, but maybe I will get a sneak peek this week when I go in for an ultrasound.

*Maternity clothes: I have been living in scrubs and yoga pants this week.

*Showing yet?: Maybe a tiny bit of bump!

*Stretch marks: Not yet…

*Movement: Nothing going on in there that  I can feel.

*Food cravings: Olive Garden Breadsticks.

*Labor signs: None…thank goodness. This baby needs to cook another 28 weeks.

*Belly button in or out: Way in as usual.

*Wedding ring on or off: on.

*Worst pregnancy symptom of the week: Every morning this week I have been waking up with tummy aches.  Not sure if it is a pregnancy symptom…but it is really annoying!

*What I miss: Sushi!  I am not really a big sushi fan, but at lunch we have been going to the Chinese Buffett and just knowing that I can’t eat it make me really want it!

*What I'm looking forward to: Doug coming home!  He has been down in the Sunshine State for the past week while I have been drowning in the rain here.

*Best Moment of the Week: When my trainer at the gym told me that he is finally seeing a bump!

Week 10: Baby is the size of a Passion Fruit

11 Weeks

photo (1)

*Total weight gain?: Down 4 pounds

*How big is baby?: 1 1/2-2 inches in length

*Sleep: This week I have actually made it through most nights without waking up to go to the bathroom.  The fatigue  that I was expecting still hasn’t shown up during the day!

Sex: Still not a clue.

*Maternity clothes: Still just a couple of shirts to hide the grossness of my belly.

*Showing yet?: No bump…still the same jiggle as last week…boooo!

*Stretch marks: Not yet…

*Movement: Nothing yet, unless you count gas pains as movement :/

*Food cravings: Any food commercial that I see on TV!  The dinner box pizza from Pizza Hut looks awesome!

*Labor signs: None…thank goodness. This baby needs to cook another 29 weeks.

*Belly button in or out: Way in as usual.

*Wedding ring on or off: on.

*Worst pregnancy symptom of the week: a tie between lower back pain and acne!  I have been going to the Chiropractor this week so hopefully the back pain will improve in the coming weeks.  As far as the pimples go…they need to just stop.  I never had bad breakouts as a teenager…WHY? WHY? WHY? now!!!  Every morning I wake up there is a new one and I am totally a picker and can’t leave them alone!

*What I miss: Running!  I can’t run to much because I get so out of breath…all this extra blood I have floating around is really hard to keep oxygenated!!!  Walking on the treadmill at an incline is my cardio of choice…and I would so rather run.

*What I'm looking forward to: Finding pants that fit.

*Best Moment of the Week: Having lunch with Doug!  He is on research this month and he has so much free time!

Week 10: Baby is the size of a Lime

*I just purchased a white shirt that all week-by-week pics will be done in from now on…no more frumpy scrubs!

10 Weeks

IMG_0922

*Total weight gain?: Down three pounds

*How big is baby?: 1 1/2 inches in length

*Sleep: I have been getting up around 4 in the morning to go to the bathroom and then I can’t make my mind go back to sleep after that and end of staying up until I have to get up to go to work.  Overall I haven’t been that tired or exhausted throughout the day that I was expecting to feel.  Maybe it will come in the next few weeks.

Sex:  I have no idea.  I have been having some breakouts on my chin and I have read that could mean it is a boy, but then I have also read that it could mean girl.  Still I am not leaning either way.

*Maternity clothes: I need to invest in a belly band.  My pants fit, but are really tight.  I wore a maternity shirt last night just to hide the fatness that is going on in my mid region!

*Showing yet?:  No bump yet, but I am feeling really fat in my stomach.  Too much jiggle going on for me!

*Stretch marks: Not yet but I expect to get them so I have been lubing up my stomach with bio oil every morning.  I hope it works to keep them away.  My mom says that I am just wishful thanking.

*Movement: Nothing yet.

*Food cravings: No cravings yet, but when I am hungry I need to eat something or I start to nauseous.

*Labor signs: None…thank goodness.  This baby needs to cook another 30 weeks.

*Belly button in or out: Way in as usual.

*What I miss: Drinking my fruity drinks!

*What I'm looking forward to: Actually having a bump and getting rid of this frumpy looking mid section.

*Best Moment of the Week: No morning sickness/all day gross feeling!!!!

Week 10: Baby is the size of a Green Olive

I sent our Christmas cards out this week and the cat is out of the bag!

WE ARE EXPECTING OUR FIRST BABY!!!!

IMG_0867

I have been bugging Doug to have kids for about the past three years and he has always told me the same answer, “After residency!” He is usually right when it comes to the timing of things and I did agree 4 ½ years ago when we said “I do” that we should wait. The waiting game was killing me especially since it seemed like everyone around me was having babies. I wanted one of our own to hold. I was curious to see what our child would look like. What would God take from each of us to put into this little being that we were going to take care of? After years of pestering Doug he finally came around and said that he was ready to start trying!  Baby Widener is due June 23, 2012 and we couldn’t be any happier!

October and Thanksgiving

The month of October was a lazy one.  We spent our weekends watching football on the couch in between naps!  It was great.

We did head out to a Halloween party at a casino.  I dressed as a loofah and Doug just wore a bathrobe and a shower cap.  He had fun gambling and I had fun dancing.

We were blessed to be able to make it back to Atlanta for the entire week of Thanksgiving!  My beautiful friend Amey got married the weekend before Thanksgiving and we just decided to stay the whole week.  The wedding was a gorgeous all day affair that left me knocked out!  Her wedding photographer did an amazing job!  I stole these off of the website because I just had to share them.

She had a fun little photo booth sat up for wedding guest to have their pictures made in.  It was such a fun and cute idea.

IMG_0886

Doug had flown in on Saturday morning via the redeye flight from Seattle.  He was a trooper all day at Amey’s wedding, going on no sleep, and he still wanted me to drop him off at a bar to meet up with his high school friends after the wedding!  He has way more energy then I do!

On Sunday the Rea’s hosted a fun little get together for all of our Atlanta friends.  It was so fun to see everyone and finally meet all the adorable kiddos!

Monday was a catch-up-on-sleep day.  We sleep till the afternoon and then went on a Christmas shopping trip with all of our nephews.  So glad to get them what they wanted for Christmas, not have to pay to ship it, and be able to wrap it myself so Ellen doesn’t have to.  We ate dinner at Valerie’s and enjoyed playing with the boys.

Tuesday we got up at 3am so Doug could meet up with my brother to go duck hunting.  We drove down to my Nanny’s and to my surprise everyone got up to greet us at 4am.  After the hunters left I promptly feel asleep on the couch.  I woke up later to my Nanny cooking breakfast saying that the guys were on their way back.  I thought man I have been asleep forever if they are on their way home.  Turns out it was only around 9 and they weren’t having much luck and decided to come on back.  It was fun to eat breakfast, catch up with the Adamson crew, and play games all before 3 o’clock.  We left a little after 3 to head back up to Atlanta to have dinner with the Reas.  We went to eat Mexican food at one of our favorite places and oh how I miss a good cheese dip!  I think I just pretty much drank it out of the bowl!  That night we gave Ellie her Christmas present and she just looked so darn cute in her apron and chefs hat!

IMG_0887IMG_0890

Wednesday we ate lunch at Mellow Mushroom (another Atlanta favorite of ours) with our nephews and Ellen.  We spent the afternoon decorating gingerbread houses and playing with the boys.  Doug played outside with Henry and Bennett and I loved watch Wilson crawl all over the place inside.  I think my favorite age is going to be from about 8 months to about 5 years old, which is perfect because Doug says that he doesn’t even like kids until they hit the 5 year old mark.  hahaha  We had our Thanksgiving dinner that night with Ellen and the Harpers and it was delicious!  We celebrated Wilson’s first birthday.  And he loved eating chocolate for the first time!  Happy Birthday Wilson!

IMG_0909IMG_0912

Thursday was Thanksgiving.  We went to McDonough for Lunch to have dinner with the Hall side of the family.  It was great to see every one and to see how much my little sweet girl cousins have grown in to beautiful young ladies.  It makes me feel so old to say that I remember changing their diapers!  The food there was fabulous and the only thing missing was my mom and dad.  Around 4 we headed back up to my Nanny’s for dinner and to stay the night.  I didn’t really eat much because I was so full from lunch and the last nights dinner!  It was fun to see everyone again and play games.  I love playing games and from as far back as I can remember there has always been someone at my Nanny’s that would play with me!

Friday we went to Doug’s dad new Lake house.  We went on nice boat ride and out to dinner.  Oh how I miss spending summers on the lake!  Maybe next summer we will be back in the South and I am going to swallow up  the heat that I have been missing these last 5 years in the Pacific Northwest!

IMG_0914

Saturday we went to the GA/Georgia tech game.  It was so fun to go to a game and the Dawgs blew the Jackets out of the water!  It was a chilly day so of course I had to find the one stand at the stadium that served hot chocolate.  I had my hot chocolate, Doug had boiled peanuts, and the Dawgs were winning…the day was great!  Doug had to get another Atlanta food fix for dinner so we went to Zaxby’s.  I feel like I gained 20 pounds on this trip eating all this food that we can’t get at home!

IMG_0916IMG_0918

Sunday we left Georgia bright and early and made it back home to WA around 3.  Doug was glad to be home and have some time to recover from our trip.  We spent the evening lounging on the couch watching football.  I have no clue what we will do on the weekends when football season is over.

Visit from the Parents

In September my mom and dad came to visit.  I always try to plan enough to keep them busy, but not too much where they are exhausted when they head home.  Well, I started their trip with wearing them out on the first weekend and then I let them recuperate during the week.

I always have Mondays off and Doug was kind enough to take a three day leave pass so we had all weekend and Monday to spend with my parents.

We picked them up from the airport and headed down to Portland, Oregon.  Since this was probably going to be their last trip out to the Pacific Northwest I wanted to show them a little of Oregon.  We went to the Pittock Mansion to see inside and walk around the grounds outside.  The Pittock owned the Weekly Oregonian newspaper and their mansion sits on a hill looking out over Portland.  The mansion reminded me of the Biltmore Estates, but it was only about a tenth of the size.

The flowers were stunning!

We went to Hamburger Mary’s for dinner and no one was impressed with the food.  Bad pick on my part!

The next morning I made up for it by suggesting we go to the famous Voodoo Doughnuts.  I really wanted to try the maple bars with bacon that I heard about on TV, but the apple fritter looked amazing as well so I got one of each!  Doug got a red velvet doughnut and I decided that we needed a regular one too.  Don’t they look yummy?

001002003

We left Portland and headed to the coast.  We took a tour of the Tillamook Cheese factory.  I am always up for cheese and ice cream!  We got to see how the cheese is produced and packaged.  Pretty interesting!  Doug thought that he should be in charge of the workers and make them work harder.  There was too much standing around for him…haha!  I don’t want him to be my boss!

004005007008009010011

After pigging out on ice cream we headed north towards home.  We stayed by the coastline and saw some amazing views.

Another place that I wanted to take my parents to was Cannon Beach.  It was a gorgeous day, clear skies and the sun was shinning!  We walked the beach and enjoyed the scenery.  My dad wanted to put his feet in the water and wondered why there wasn’t anyone out swimming.  He found out why when he put his feet in.  It was freezing!

023024

Wrecks came with us too.  He loves playing on the beach.  We didn’t let him get in the water even though he made several attempts.

025

The movie The Goonies was filmed on this beach.  The big rock formation on the right is called Haystack rock and it is where they found the treasure in the movie.

027031032033038040043

After the beach we headed back home to DuPont.  It was a long and tiring trip but we needed to rest up for Monday!

Monday we went spent the morning at the dentist.  My mom and dad had some work that needed to get done so I wanted to make sure that that happened.  After the dentist we did the “Ride the Ducks” tour.  The tour gives a great overview of Seattle, but our guide was lacking in the entertaining section.

The Seahawks were playing Monday night football and I was lucky enough to score us 4 tickets.  We all had a blast at the game and I am glad that my mom and dad got to experience Quest Field and Seahawks fans.

Doug and I had to go back to work on Tuesday.  My mom and dad pent the rest of their time going to Mt. Rainier, to Seattle to do the “Underground Tour”, and going back to the dentist.  On Saturday we had a yummy breakfast of biscuits and gravy and spent the day watching college football.

My parents left on Saturday night and I always hate saying goodbye when I don’t know when I will see them again.  Hopefully we will be moving back to the Southeast in July and I can see them a lot more often!!!
